What is Medicare?

Grape1.jpg

The Medicare Program is a federally funded and administered program that provides health insurance to those who are 65 years of age or older. People who are disabled and have been receiving Social Security disability payments for 24 months are also eligible for Medicare, regardless of their age. To apply for Medicare Parts A and B online visit www.ssa.gov or www.Medicare.gov, or go to your local Social Security office in person. You have a 7 month window to apply for Medicare when you are first turning 65. You can apply during the three months before your birthday month, during your birthday month, and up to three months after your birthday month.

As your Medicare consultants, Jane and her team have extensive knowledge of the Medicare system. The team are all licensed in the state of New York and are Medicare certified to help Medicare beneficiaries choose Medicare Advantage Plans, Part D Plans and Medicare Supplement programs. Jane's team provides one-on-one consultations to help determine the plan that will best meet your needs.

Ahrens Benefits Company Medicare team focuses on eligibility terms and other important eligibility information, including making sure your doctors are in the provider network and determining that your current prescription drugs are in the plans formulary. Jane's team will cover extra plan features and help you with the appeals/grievance process should you ever need it.

Moreover, if an individual who is on Medicare experiences difficulties paying for their health care or prescription costs, Jane's Medicare team can locate resources in order to help ensure that their proper coverage is provided. The team is able to help with the Federal Extra Help program and the New York State EPIC program.

Since the Medicare Program is constantly changing, as Medicare consultants, Jane's Medicare team takes responsibility to notify their clients of any changes and helps them choose a new Medicare plan, if necessary.

Medicare Part A

Part A of Medicare covers in-patient hospitalization. You usually don't pay a monthly premium for Medicare Part A coverage if you or your spouse paid Medicare taxes while working. This is sometimes called 'premium-free Part A."

Medicare Part B

Part B of Medicare is Medical coverage, doctors visits and what services they order. You pay a premium each month for Part B. Most people will pay the standard premium amounts. However, if your modified adjusted gross income as reported on your IRS tax return from 2 years ago is above the threshold amount, you may pay an Income Related Monthly Adjustment Amount (IRMAA). IRMMA is an extra charge added to your premium.
